{Hello Route. Nanao's sitting at a picnic table in New Bark Town, hands folded neatly on the table. One hand's knuckles are wrapped in a handkerchief, but she stares levelly at the camera, eyes utterly serious.}

Hello. I would be grateful if someone out there was able to provide an answer to my questions. Don't worry, I only have two. {She looks away for a moment, swallowing.}

How were we brought here, and does anyone know why? I think I understand where we are, even if the premise is absurd, but it is the how and why that yet eludes me.

{A Pidgey chirps somewhere off camera, and Nanao's fingers clench and uncurl.}

A precis on what happened might be nice as well, considering that this town looks like it's been ravaged by a storm.

{That said, she reaches out and clicks off the feed. She'll be wandering around New Bark for a while at least, so feel free to approach her if you see her!}

I am worrying now, uhm. {She doesn't even know his name.}

[Way to go Envy. She's new and confused and he's yelling. He makes himself at least look more calmed down.]

Let me start over. Name's Envy.

{Envy... An unusual name, but if she'd known him, then it mustn't have been a problem for her. She's going to extend an olive branch, so she smiles as reassuringly as she can.}

[Envy manages to pull his face into a half grin at her smile. He's going manage this if it's the last thing he does. It's good to see her again in spite of the circumstances.]

I guess I do have that. I know your name's Nanao Ise, and you were a shinigami who fought hollows.

We...used to talk, a lot, we were good friends.

[He's not throwing the sister business at her right now, she's already got enough to deal with.]

I wouldn't mind talking to you more, I think. {So far, so good.} At least you'll know what I'm talking about when I start rambling about other Shinigami...

I'll know some of it anyway, but you'll just have to try me as it comes. I don't think I heard about all of them.

[It's already less difficult talking to her, easy to fall back into older habits. It's clear that he's starting to actually calm down.]

[A big, green Tyranitar head head looms down over Envy's shoulder, looking curious. Chimera noticed that his trainer was acting strange, and he recognizes Nanao's voice. Envy absently reaches up to scratch the side of the Pokemon's neck as he talks.]

You didn't get something big enough to ride on, did you? Because let me tell you, it's not a fun walk to Cherrygrove.

{She breathes a laugh, and shrugs.}

There are quite a few of them, I admit. {ENVY THAT IS A DINOSAUR. That is an actual dinosaur. Oh gosh.}

{also she just reaches down under the table. when she brings it back up, there's a Yamask clinging to her finger.}

I don't think this little one could pick me up, let alone carry me to Cherrygrove.

[Envy stares for a second at the Yamask, before shaking his head and letting out a quiet laugh.]

Figures you'd get one of those.

...there's a joke here that I'm missing. {Narrows eyes.}

Not a very good joke, but...well, why don't you point the 'Gear at that one and see what it has to say.

{She does just that, and the screen is suddenly full of a slightly unsure Yamask.}

Yamask, the Spirit Pokemon. These Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life.

{...the 'gear now has a lovely view of the New Bark Town sky.}

What the hell?! This thing was a human?!

{brb panicking}

[WHOOPS.]

Ah--hey, don't freak out!

[Not that he can blame her too much because Yamasks freaked him right out too at first.]

Yeah, they were, but it's...I don't know, mine's okay with it.

{HOW THE FUCK DOES SHE DEAL WITH THIS, IT'S LITERALLY A HOLLOW}

{She reaches out, and shakily fixes the gear back up. She looks rather pale and rattled.}

S-sorry, I just... This is something I didn't expect to happen. {The Yamask has backed off, and now peeps back up over the table's edge.}

Does yours do anything.... unusual? I'm sorry, that's a weird question, but I just need to be sure.

[He's always just considered them this world's version of a homunculus. Still weird and kind of upsetting, but not for the same reason.]

...if you count wanting to go to the library for books all the time unusual, then yeah.

They can read? That's not something I would consider... normal.

Edmund can, but he says he used to be a librarian so it makes sense.

...They can all understand what people say though.

[don't hurt your ghost's feelings Nanao]

Wait, what? {She did not anticipate this! She peers down at the Yamask, and it peers back.}

He can talk to you? All that... this little one has made are burbles and squeaks. {As it then does, proving the point.}

Oh, not...actually talk. But he can write. He said that actually talking would be more trouble than it's worth.

I'm sure he's around here somewhere, I could go get him if you wanted to talk to him.

[Because she was clearly pretty unnerved by her own.]

That's intriguing... {She almost doesn't hear the second part of his statement, she's so lost in thought.}

Hm? Oh, yes please. ...if you wouldn't mind, of course.

It's no problem, I'll be back in a second.

[There's also the secret, secondary motive of getting to stop talking to her and looking at her for a few minutes. Just to have a second to get at least some of his thoughts in order.]

[He hands the 'Gear over to Chimera to hold, so she'll get a curious dinosaur face staring at her and Envy's faint voice calling for Edmund to get over here. It's not long before he's back, and the 'Gear gets handed to a little Yamask. Edmund gives Nanao a shy wave before starting to text.]

Hello, I am Edmund. Envy said you wanted to talk to me?

{Hello there, Mr Dinosaur. Nanao's going to wave at you!}

{Oh gosh, Edmund is actually... really cute. Nanao's Yamask is going to sneakily sneak up behind her back and peer over her shoulder.}

Yes - he said that you remembered facets of your previous life. {BREATHE, Nanao. It's not actually a Hollow.}

I'm a little curious about that. Would you mind talking to me about it a little?

[Edmund sees that other Yamask! He gives her a nod, still clearly shy.]

Oh, certainly I will. I don't remember quite all of it, it gets blurry.

Um, what sorts of things would you like to know?

Uhm, Envy said you were a librarian - what were, well, what are your favourite type of books?

Well I've always enjoyed a good mystery! Shellos Holmes and Herdier Poirot are some of my favorites.

Shellos Holmes-- oh, they've been modified to have Pokemon in them...

{That's kind of clever. She hadn't anticipated that.} Never been tempted to look into some of the more romantic works, eh?
